Sweep FX / Gate Problem

I recently took the whole prime setup and I am very pleased. There is only one problem that disappoints me a lot. This problem is the Sweep FX / Gate! When I use the effect counterclockwise there is no problem but when I use it clockwise things are very bad. First the effect works when he decide! When I turn the knob very little clockwise (to the right) it works for few seconds (2 max 3) and then he stop. When the effect is working it’s easy to hear that the sync is out of time (it’s sounds glitchy). When I turn the knob more clockwise the sound is totally muted by the effect (there is no sound at all). I picked up the mixer and brought it to the store where I bought it and tested another 3 mixers and they all have this problem. I hope Denon to release new firmware update that will fix this problem because I love the Gate FX and I love it because it’s separated from the Beat FX! This is digital mixer and I think that this problem will be fixed in the future by firmware update.

Hi @Kenhox The clockwise side of this knob activates the gate. It behaves the same as a noise gate you would use in the studio. Turning the knob is changing the threshold level. The more clockwise the turn, the higher the decibel threshold. If the audio doesn’t hit that threshold, the audio won’t come through. It’s most effective on audio that’s very percussive, with sharp transients and quick decays.

Hi @Chloe_DENONDJ & @Kenhox. I to experience the same issue that Kenhox explains and agree, and in response to Chloe_DENONDJ what about the counter clock way side of this effect, although not as bad as the clockwise side this gate does sound off and not usable as it sometimes has undesired and unexpected results. If I loop a beat every time I try the gate the results are different and unpredictable? Surely something is not working as it should here…Any one else having this problem?

It’s based on levels - so different tracks and different gain levels will give different results - that’s pretty standard on any fx

I had the same gripe with the Gate. Until I read Chloe’s response to you I also thought the gate was incorrectly working. The problem was, I expected to get the same Gate result as I previously had used in Traktor, Serato, or DJM hardware. So in short the X1800 Gate cannot be used in the way we traditionally have used Gate. Instead use the Trans effect, for when you want to create a gate result your used to. For the Sweep Gate I found it can ONLY be used effectively as a transition for the outgoing tracks, and the LOW EQ must be either killed or at its lowest value. I experimented alot with this to find when best to use it. Ultimately just kill the bass and start experimenting, you got to think outside the box with this one.
