Feature Requests - What would You like to see?

In my opinion it’s not important if it would be better on a big or small screen. It’s simply possible, i can create and manage playlists on my smartphone on a tiny 4,7" display with a simple audio player app.

So why would it not be possible on an SC5000. Press & hold on a Track for 5 Seconds will open a sub-menu to manage playlists or show track details. Even if its not that super charming workflow like on a pc with the software, it would be a great feature for mobile DJs who juggels different genres on an evening or managing a wishlist on the go. Or simply, just to show other manufactures what such a great device as the SC5000 can do

And that’s where the fun begjns…

“I’m a busy DJ! I can’t stand there for 5 seconds … sometimes I can be just 10 seconds away from a song finishing and I’ll change my mind what to load next … I could lose 4.9 seconds if I’ve gotta …”

On the flip side …

“What’s this sub menu nonsense that keeps coming up… I had my fingers resting on the display, waiting for the the bass drop and I look down at my screen and see…”

It’s one of those “some of the people, some of the time” situations…

There’s little doubt that the 5000 could do playlists on-screen. By now, it might even be doing that.

Perhaps a more user friendly method might be that playlists can be created from the Prepare folder… a very iTunes like command of “save prepare list as a new playlist”

I know it’s getting a bit offtopic, but its a interesting discussion, with different views and points.

Not every DJ mixes a Song every 30 seconds, if you run a routine like that you already have a prepared setlist or prepared crates with the tracks in it. I think every DJ already experienced a hurry situation, and in that case i don’t mind about moving a track to list. But when i feel like having the time to move it to certain list, i could manage it already on the SC 5000 device.

Why in the world would i rest my fingers on the touchscreen, you also don’t rest your finger on your activated mobile device? Denon DJ product specialists and promoter demonstrate and promote the new SC5000 with words like “feels and act like a common touch screen”, so why don’t use it like that?

To create a new playlist / crate out of the tag list is a valid option, but gives you not the possibilities to really manage playlists. Sounds like an yesterday invention to me and is a common feature from other devices. For me it’s not that flexible as to add certain songs to a specific playlist.

For me it’s just a feature i’d like to see, a suggestion from my point of view, as the topic of the thread says. Think a bit outside the box.

Oh indeed, and me neither - of course though, you and I are the only users -and that’s why no single product is the Boothe-5000 Prime or the JanSC5000 Prime… sometimes things have to be “dumbed down” as one article put it, for mass appeal.

Denon DJ have always been the most innovative DJ manufacturer with things like a dual cd deck that had dual layer (so plugged into 4 channels on a mixer) - a few (thousand) DJs fell in love with it - a lot of DJs said “Too complicated” or “I’d never use that feature, I don’t want to pay for that feature, I’ll buy something else…”

Hence a need to balance features … and maybe keep some features back until users have got used to the main features first.

In my earlier list already suggested the following 2 options:

  • Save preparation folder as playlist or crate
  • Save history as playlist or crate

I think this would be useful. On top of that, a solution for above…

Currently, when you want a track’s information on the SC5000, you tap and hold your finger on the track in the browser (I think about 2 seconds for now). That is already in! When this info screen opens you see meta data for track, artist, genre, label, album, year, directory, filename, comment, BPM, key, length, star rating and artwork. On the bottom there there should be room for 4 buttons:

  • Add to playlist

  • Edit ID3-tags

  • Re-analyze

  • Back

  • When pressed ‘Add to playlist’ the list with playlists (+ option New playlist) could come up. Tap to add.

  • When pressed ‘Edit ID3-tags’ the tags could become clickable to edit with onboard keyboard. Press done to leave edit mode

  • When pressed ‘Re-analyze’ the file would re-analyze the track

  • When pressed ‘Back’ or on another place except the buttons you leave the info window.

When the track info screen is opened from the playlist itself there could be a button remove from playlist (with additional ‘Are you sure to remove? Cancel / OK’ option.

This is how I would implement this functions. In my opinion this way should not affect the current user friendly way of working.

Personally I think the possibility to remove files on the unit itself is not entirely safe, as there is no such thing as a trash bin. So remove means that your file is irreversible gone. In examples: Could be a prank by another DJ with your collection, could be a mistake, could be an angry club owner when you’re taking a ■■■■. But I certainly would not be happy if someone could remove my tracks without my permission

Agreed. I would NOT want to see that feature added. Deleting tracks should be left for between shows when maintaining your collection.

However … a “flag” feature where you can flag files on the go for reference later might be good. I’ve been in the situation where a corrupt or poor quality mp3 ends up on my collection, and I notice mid gig, and need to remind myself to look at it when I get home to sort it out !

Continuous mixed playlist with fade, like in iTunes, or the old days. I am a mobile dj and do not mix dinner music, or cocktail music.

I’d love a feature where the SC5000 would pack itself up at the end of the night and then drive me to my home/hotel whenever I’m exhausted. Upon arrival, I would like it to then make me a sandwich and a stiff cocktail, followed by an hour-long massage while telling me how great I am. It should also take care of my drycleaning and accounting as well. That’s not too much to ask, right?

^^^ Now this is a feature set I would pay huge $$$ for! Denon - give this guy a job asap!

Add Auto Loop from Denon SC2900, not easy with a knob !

Have to disagree with you on that one. I’ve used both types and an encoder knob works just as well if not better in my opinion. But everyone has their preferences - and lucky for you, if you prefer a button, you’ve got the loop mode on the pads at the bottom. They work very much like the old “auto loop” button (and even have some added flexibility).

If it hasn’t been suggested before, a “mixes well with (previous/next)” button would be cool if there was also the ability to show “suggested tracks” based on your previous recommendations

There are the Key and bpm filters in the search menu that will narrow down compatible tracks based on those two criteria, but I’m guessing that’s not what is meant here. I’m not sure how a “mixes well with…” feature would be implemented given that the machine won’t be able to read the crowd. That said, it would be quite the algorithm to analyze the subtle characteristics of the dynamics of a song and be able to suggest a compatible mix based on that.

New to the conversation: This is for those of us who do club and mobile gigs.

1 Reasonable request - please implement some sort of cfade/autofade and relay feature, similar to the way the old DN-HD2500’s work. I see there is a continuous mode, but being able to set fade time between tracks (either on the same deck or the second deck) is a lifesaving feature for a mobile.

2 Reasonable, but dreaming request - perhaps with a hardware add-on or future product/controller - REMOTE CONTROL! Yes, a simple RF (not IR) remote that can trigger cued up tracks or samples while acting as the MC on the dance floor. Maybe include a master volume control, too. But something that would allow us to “entertain” while out from behind the decks, so to speak.

But I’m in the process of determining where to invest my money, and I’d really like Denon to come through like they did previously.

That’s all for now.

Perhaps I could have explained it better… not talking about an algorithm, or an automatic “recommended tracks” function, but the ability for users to highlight what tracks mix well with others. I believe the competition already have this feature, either Traktor or Rekordbox, I can’t recall.

Re: remote control. With either RF or IR you’re talking about building in features into the hardware that don’t exist.

Then how about a upgraded ios and android Engine app that can connect via wifi to SC5000 units and via lan to older units (including the mcx8000)?

I see what you mean now. That sounds like a super useful feature.
