Feature Requests - What would You like to see?

In a perfect world…

Ludicrous example. Trying to read a drive through a hub introduces technological problems Hub must first be detected, then system must have sufficient throughput to read/write through it. They already have 3X the ports of any competition, and they’re USB 3.0, at that.

Among other things like hide the foldertree when i am browsing thru a folder on the sc5k and hit back to get it back, i would like to dictate where the trackplaymarkerstripe is, i like it more to the left.

And a way to adjust faulty bpm on a gridded track. On the sc5k. Like on the engine prime laptop version, a way to manually set or tap it in.

On the laptopsoftware, I like to see how much space a crate or playlists takes and total playing time.

Have done four 4+hr shows on them now, last of them even with the x1800 and superpleased with the whole setup, mixer sounds awesome, not as compressed as some other djmixers out there.crisp clear and warm. Much like.

Perhaps by press and hold the deck tempo (BPM) on the touchscreen in perfomance view, allowing a pop-up to come up to set BPM like in Engine Prime software (Manual with touch keyboard or with + & - button, buttons to half and double BPM, Tap button and Reset BPM). Close pop-up by Save or Restore. The restore option might be handy here if you only want to see half or doubles for transition mixes, like when you want to mix BPM 171,8 to 85,9, than the deck does the math… or when your BPM tap is not to your liking to save

When editing beat grids/cues/loops Engine Prime on a laptop/desktop and transferring a media file to portable storage, the library then scrolls way down to the bottom, losing your place in the library. This is a pain, as you then need to go back and find the place you were at every single time you add a track. It also resets whichever column you had previously highlighted to sort data

A great addition to the screen would be the kbps of the track

It is not a matter of track limits - it is simply:

  • the possibility to search library tracks on the laptop (faster, easier etc.)
  • u always have the full library not an extract
  • changes you’ve made are written straight back to the library (without reimporting them)

Would that be something that would be better to see on the Engine Prime screen instead of on the SC5000 Prime screen?

After all, the Kbps info can indeed tell you a little about whether the track will sound deeply luxourious (like 320kbps) or like its being played down a telephone line (like 128kbps) but you’re not going to be able to do much about a poor quality file mid-set/live. Whereas if viewing the track at home, you could think about buying a higher quality version of the track from a legit downloadable purchasing source, removing the old track from the database and the drive etc.

From the descriptions given above, sometimes the BPM displayed isn’t “false” or "wrong’ but simply half or double what the DJ believes or wants the track to be identified as. e.g.: A track shows up as 208 BPM when the DJs ears tells him/her energy wise, that the track would be better stored as a 104 BPM track, for mixing purposes. Or maybe you know that theres a tricky jumble of beats or a deep acappella intro which causes mis-readings of BPM, and you just want to type in the tracks known BPM from an online review, or download service etc.

Here are some possible ideas for how an enhancement could take… (no promises at this stage, just “bouncing” these ideas off of you guys:

  1. With the track loaded on-screen on either layer, Press the BPM on the screen e.g.: Press on the [128.0 BPM] on the touch screen.

  2. A numeric keypad appears on the touch screen. The keypad has the current BPM showing, and includes on-screen buttons for 0-9, a decimal place, [Save] and buttons for “Halve” and “Double”

3 Pressing Halve would make the display of 128 change to 64, or…pressing [Double] would make the 128 show up as 256

  1. Alternatively, you would press [1] then [3] then [0] then [Save] to store the BPM as 130.

Auto cue scratch (jumps back to cue when you touch platter) would also be cool.

Would t that prevent a DJ from scratching in the middle of a track?

As soon as you touch the platter the currentl position would be lost

It’s not the same as slip. It jumps to the last used main cue or hot cue used. It’s an optional scratch mode like Slip, and actually dates back to the Axis 8/9 players. It’s been used by Numark, American Audio, Stanton, Reloop, Omnitronic, etc.

But if a Track gets to say 1 minute 20 seconds and the DJ grabs the platter, the DJ would be expecting his/her actions to affect the beat/vocal/stab heard at 1 minute 20 seconds in the track, not jumping to some totally different part of the track, unless you’re suggesting a whole different mode which could be switched to e.g.: Scratch Behaviour: Normal / Previous Cue Point / Next Cue Point.

Perhaps the second layer could help you achieve your goal.

The only thing, which i am currently missing, are some more sorting and search options … dated added, year, genre and so forth. this options would come in very handy.

Instant initial cue after file load on unanalyzed files. The main cue button should work before analyze ends.

I believe you can play the track instantly, while the track is analysed in the background

Yes that is possible, play works, but at the moment the cue works only after analyzing. But it’s confirmed that the next firmware will fix this!

Pio have this filter on their new range, for example the CDJ-2000NXS2. And also in Rekordbox. You can setup the filter to show you tracks within a collection or playlist that has compatible keys, are within a specific pitch range, have a certain rating or personal tag etc. All of which you can edit and specifiy to your liking. It is a killer feature when you have collections running upward 20.000 songs. It makes finding your next track a breeze and makes your sets more dynamic. Please please add :slightly_smiling_face:

With the exception of personal tag - all those search criteria/filters are already in place. So you can, for example search for a track containing a certain word, filter by those tracks only within a certain BPM range, show only matching or compatible keys etc.

The tags / personal comment bit can sometimes lead to “samey” sets e.g.: Show me everything I’ve tagged with “crowd pleasers” - but of course, that’s down to how different people use that tag in different ways.

The SC5000 also allows you to set the BPM +/- range for searches in the on-screen touch menu. So, if you’re happy mixing with pitches of only say +/-5% pitch adjustments, then you can set that as a preference and the BPM filtering will only show tracks within that BPM range. Having said that, the Key Adjust algorithm on the SC5000 is so pure, you may find that where previously you daren’t risk pitch changes more than +/- 5% previously, you might find that you can easily incorporate pitch changes of +/-10 or 20% or more, without previous concerns.
