Can the SC5000 Prime be used as a USB Hub in Controller mode?

Continuing the discussion from Sc5000 loss connection with serato dj:

Hello @Gee_DenonDJ I’m following this conversation.

In Controller mode (for Serato) Can I plug one SC5000 into another using just the rear USB sockets instead of a powered USB hub?

One SC5000 is connected to my laptop via USB 3.0 cable, then I plug the 2nd SC5000 into the 1st SC5K players USB3.0 rear socket.

Can I plug an extra controller? e.g. Numark Orbit or Akai APC40 MK2 into the sockets

Basically can I use the SC5000 players USB slots like a standard USB Hub?

Many thanks.

yes you can I use the Akai MPX8 plugged to one of the USB in the back of the 5000 you can also link both SC5000’s together so you only use one cable to your laptop.

Thanks as I wasn’t aware of this.

It wasnt stated in the user manual (Denon/Serato).

Yeah it’s not stated on the manual

Just gave this a go

I connected the following

4TB external HD (threw up a incompatible warning as it’s HFS format but I ignore it anyways since I didn’t plan to play from it via the players)

SC5000 Player 1 to 2 via USB (using the supplied cable)

Player 2 was then connected to mid 17 MacBook Pro with a USB 3.1 to USB C cable

S9 connected to laptop with USB 2 to C cable

All Worked fine  running Serato + Mixemergency.

Gonna try connecting the S9 to one of the players now and see what the result is.

You can use the extra USB ports on the rear of the SC5000 to link together or daisy chain SC5000’s together, avoiding a USB hub, but only with 2 or 3 physical decks.

Daisy chaining setup examples are below.

2 DECKS (SC5000 1 used as powered hub)

  • SC5000 1 to PC/Mac via USB 3.0 Cable

  • X1800 to PC/Mac via USB 2.0 Cable

  • SC5000 2 to SC5000 1 USB 2/3 via USB 3.0 Cable

3 DECKS (SC5000 1 used as powered hub)

  • SC5000 1 to PC/Mac via USB 3.0 Cable

  • X1800 to PC/Mac via USB 2.0 Cable

  • SC5000 2 to SC5000 1 USB 2 via USB 3.0 Cable

  • SC5000 3 to SC5000 1 USB 3 via USB 3.0 Cable

4 DECKS (Use an external powered hub to minimize the number of hubs used)

  • Powered USB 3.0 hub to PC/Mac via USB 3.0 Cable

  • SC5000 1 to Hub via USB 3.0 Cable

  • X1800 to PC/Mac via USB 2.0 Cable

  • SC5000 2 hub via USB 3.0 Cable

  • SC5000 3 hub via USB 3.0 Cable

  • SC5000 4 hub via USB 3.0 Cable

Yup this is what I tried today and was unaware of.

This was what I was doing before with the two decks.

I tried to push it further by connecting my Pioneer S9 to the decks just for the sake of dj science  [I know USB Audio interfaces have to be plugged directly to computer USB] and it didn’t work.

Time for Denon to update the user manual of the firmware as only “USB Storage Devices” was mentioned in it and I did read the manual a few times.
